Experiences and Reviews of VIT Hostel Mess Food

Hostel life at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is known for its highly rated messes, where students can enjoy a variety of cuisine options tailored to their preferences. From North Indian to special messes, the VIT messes offer diverse food options that cater to the diverse tastes of its student population.

Diverse Mess Options in VIT

VIT has an array of mess options that include North Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, South Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and special messes. Students can choose their mess during the payment process, and even if they are not satisfied, they can change the mess after a month. The special mess is particularly popular among North Indians, as it offers a better quality of food compared to the regular messes, including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

Superb Hostel Food at VIT

The hostel food at VIT is renowned for its excellence, often rated higher than that of IITs. With five messes available in the first-year blocks, and each block having two mess options, students can find a variety of food options. For North Indians, there is no need to worry about eating South Indian food, as the North Indian messes are available in abundance. The food in the special mess, in particular, is of superior quality and fully justifies the higher price.

Caterers and Food Options

There are approximately six caterers on the VIT campus, with Darling Caterers being exclusively for first-year students. These caterers serve a variety of food types, including South Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian, North Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and special messes. Each caterer has a set menu for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Students can select the caterer and type of food they prefer every month, but despite the variety, there's a common experience of being bored by the food eventually due to its repetitive nature.

Personal Experiences and Insights

While some students may get bored of the food, it's important to note that the quality is generally very high. After a month, the food may not be as exciting, but the taste and quality remain impressive. Different blocks have different mess options, such as M Block's darling mess, which was particularly good in 2015. VIT also offers a Food Park, providing additional options for students to explore.

It's important to remember that the mess food is generally decent, especially when compared to other South Indian colleges. However, having food that is the same every day isn't always appreciated. Therefore, students are encouraged to find a compromise that suits their tastes and preferences.
