Experiencing Coronavirus Infection: A Personal Journey and Recovery Tips

Coronavirus infection is a concerning experience for many, and I can attest to this from my own personal journey. Here, I share my experience, the symptoms I faced, and the steps I took to recover. This article is also designed to help understand the process and provide some practical advice for recovery.

Initial Symptoms and Panic

When I initially felt unwell, I mistook the symptoms for a seasonal flu, given the cold and grey weather in Bangalore for the past four months. However, soon after developing a fever and a persistent, unbearable cough, it became clear that this was more than just a seasonal ailment. The following days were a mix of discomfort, panic, and resolve.

The first few days saw a high fever, a splitting headache, and body aches. It was a difficult experience, especially since the fever persisted for three to four days. Breathing difficulties became evident for people with underlying conditions, but I was fortunate to have no such complications, although I did experience breathing difficulties that lasted only a few days.

The First Day of Fever

On July 29th, my body temperature rose to 102°F (38.9°C) early in the evening. I managed to see a doctor, who prescribed medicines, including an injection. However, the relief from the injection only lasted a few hours, and then the symptoms returned. I adhered to the prescribed medication for the next four days, but my body continued to battle the infection.

Recovering from Coronavirus

By August 2nd, my fever had subsided, but I was still battling a sore throat and significant fatigue. My energy levels were drastically reduced, and the lack of taste and smell was quite evident. The absence of these senses made me realize the severity of the virus's impact on my body.

Upon consulting a different hospital treating coronavirus patients, the doctor confirmed that my case was not severe, as my fever lasted only three days and my oxygen levels were normal. I was advised to quarantine at home and take prescribed medicines.

Home Recovery Measures

To help me recover, I took several measures and incorporated various tips that might be beneficial for others:

Inhaling Steam: I inhaled steam six to eight times a day to help clear my airways. Drinking Kadha: I drank Kadha five times a day, a traditional Ayurvedic medicine that includes herbs like turmeric, black pepper, and ginger. Vitamin C: I took Vitamin C tablets daily to boost my immune system. Giloy Juice: I drank Giloy juice every morning on an empty stomach for its anti-inflammatory properties. Milk with Turmeric: I consumed milk with turmeric before sleeping to aid relaxation and detoxification.

It took me about one month to fully recover from the physical and emotional strain of the infection. The return of my sense of taste and smell came after about 15 to 18 days, bringing a sense of normalcy back to my life.

Prevention Tips

The best prevention is to maintain social distancing and wear a double mask, especially during times when the virus is circulating. Moreover, it's important to avoid unnecessary panic and self-medication. Instead, seek medical advice and follow prescribed treatments.

For those who might be concerned about the loss of taste and smell, it's important to understand that these symptoms often resolve on their own with time. Seeking medical advice can provide peace of mind and guidance on managing these symptoms.

Here is the recipe for Kadha, which might be beneficial during recovery:

Kadha Recipe

1 spoon of turmeric (Haldi) 2 spoon of carom seeds (Ajwain) 1/2 spoon of black pepper 2 spoon of crushed ginger (Adrak) 4 to 5 cloves (Dalchini) 1 cinnamon stick (Dalchini) 1 large spoon of jaggery (Gur) 1/2 spoon of salt 1 spoon of mustard oil (Rai) 500ml of water

Boil all the ingredients together in 500ml of water, strain, and let it cool before consumption.

Recovery from coronavirus is a journey that requires patience, self-care, and support from loved ones. By sharing my experience, I hope to provide some comfort to those going through a similar experience and to offer practical advice for recovery.
