Personal Experience: A Positive Journey

I joined Whole Foods Market as part of the opening team when the store in Westford, Massachusetts was converted from a Market Basket to a Whole Foods and it opened in early May 2016. It's been a great 4 years, and I've met a lot of great friends. The people aspect of the job is something I love; as an extrovert, I enjoy meeting new people and learning about what they've learned about food and the programs Whole Foods runs.

Whole Foods cares a lot about its employees and always pays above minimum wage. They accrue paid time off, conduct annual employee surveys on workplace culture, harassment, and team communication. Regular trainings on new product customer service skills, and new programs like those with local suppliers and farming loans to small businesses run by women are also provided. We have quarterly store meetings and inventory nights where there are raffled prizes and recognition of fellow employees. At my first team meeting after the store opened, I was recognized as a rising star in customer service/front end.

There's usually dinner provided if you show up early to inventory nights! On Thursday, Friday, and Sunday evenings, there are fun items to choose from to add to your lunch or dinner. At the end of the night, there are usually cupcakes and other pastries that are about to go out of code that we can take for ourselves.
