The Decline of Joy in Cooking: A Reflection on Modern Dining

What Do You Like About Your Food?

It doesn't try to eat me first.
It doesn't taste bad.
Seriously, that's all I have at the moment. I am in a phase of life where I am tired of cooking. And nothing really tastes all that great. Except chocolate, of course. That always tastes good or fantastic. But actual food? Eh... I could live on chili for months and nothing else. Eating is just such a chore and I do it because I am hungry now, not because it's an actual pleasant experience. Tonight, I threw salad, shrimp, bacon, and garlic bread together in a pan, piled it on a paper plate, and then forgot to eat it. I think I am hungry, my stomach is growling, but it's not really worth it to get out of bed to go eat it now. A week ago, I opened a can of kidney beans, added some sweet pickles, and cooked burger to it. And last month, I did eat chili for 9 days straight. I am tired. Really. It's a hell of a chore just eating. I miss the days when food excited me.

But I do have a few bars of chocolate here, I will probably eat that. Though I can still smell the bacon. Maybe I'll go pick that out of the shrimp. Can't be any worse than the mashed potatoes and couscous I made the other day. Hopefully.

Passion for Cooking

Everything. I love shopping for the ingredients, creating new recipes, testing and tasting, spending hours in the kitchen, and serving it to hungry people, and most of all, eating it.

When I cook it, I know what has gone into it or on it. Eating out you put your trust in an unknown cook behind kitchen doors.

For me, it's all about texture. I don't like just one texture, like flan or cheesecake. That being said, if it has some ‘crunchy’ nuts, chocolate bites, or other crunchy/chewy bits, then it could be quite enjoyable. I like it sweet but need it to be balanced too—like flaked sea salt on ice cream. Biscuits and cookies are great when they incorporate these textures: chewy and crunchy.

A Unique Culinary Profile

Hello!
One of my credentials is that I enjoy being vegetarian immensely.
I enjoy shopping for food, I enjoy preparing food, especially in my home.

Fish and Chef's Delight

Fish.
My parents weren't big fish lovers.
They were meat and potatoes folk.
So everything they are, I turned out opposite in many ways.
My craving for just fish and shellfish is one of those dispositions.

I can go pure Pescatarian for life.
My favorites are crab, lobster tail, or white fish... drenched in butter and garlic or baked in mayonnaise.
And I love it burnt to a crisp.
I eat them with baked greens in coconut milk. With a side of baked plantains or sweet potato.

Samoan Soulfood

Samoan soulfood also has a place in my culinary journey. The flavors and textures of Samoan cuisine bring a unique flavor to my dining experiences. Whether it's trying to recreate traditional recipes with local ingredients or experimenting with new Samoan dishes, I find immense joy in the process.
